Is it worth the effort

A Social Media group that I belong to sent me this article link today about users of social media sites.  Article  It discusses the amount of users using Facebook versus Twitter and the other major sites.  They discuss gains of losses of millions of users per quarter.  When looking as an educator for ways to reach today's students it definitely demonstrates that these mediums are one way to do just that.

Should I twitter to my students, should I have a facebook site so they can 'Like" my class?  Frnakly, I am not sure what will be the answer but I do know that if we rely on what has always worked we will not get through to our students.

"Who woulda thunk that??"

  1. Its a good question you pose. I don't think I know the answer either. Part of me wants to say that I still prefer email for everything. I really hate Facebook, but the younger gen doesn't know any different. But to me its social and not the way to get out information on a professional and educational level. I don't know, but I do like the idea of a site a student can access per class. I love Blackboard for that purpose. For me it works really well.

  2. I have been involved in social media marketing for our Google SEO project at my work. I have been reading article on how to promote your business in facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, youtube e.t.c so that it will have impact on Google search engine. I think these social network especially Facebook is tool that provide trust to your brand. When student click on "Like" link that means it create trust on your teaching ability.
